There were 17  authors ON BOTH Lists!  There are now 4 remaining on both Lists.  The rational that Hisways used to remove the other 13 from the Approved List was that it is easy to pen them in on the blank lines provided, if necessary.  The remaining dual authors are identified with this symbol: (!) on this page and both columns of the big List(s).
Authors on both lists causes us to acknowledge the fact that all of the 295 "Approved Authors" in Addendum #1 may not be appropriate.  They are not age graded and are not all verified and some are marked with a (?) symbol.  Parents should add age-grading at least for the two authors below i.e. Shakespeare and Twain that are on both lists.  Perhaps you should "x" out or line out all of the Anonymous and unknown authors just so that there aren't any miscommunications later on at school.   If you research the Approved Authors for your child's age or maturity, then after printing the big List, just line through the name of the author(s) on the wrong side of the list.  Hisways.Org is of the opinion that the Authors
of Excellence should take precedence over all the other authors.
If one of the teachers or staff insists on using a particular UNapproved Author and/or title for completing an assignment so that the assignment cannot be done using substitutes, then, ask to see their "rationale" for using that author's work.  If they don't have a "rationale" they have no basis for insisting on only that title since literary colleges and associations like the Am. Library Assoc. practically demands that the teachers develop their own rationale for each book.  If the teacher/staff does have a "rationale" ask for a copy and use it to write a "rationale" for one of your Authors of Excellence titles.   This is one of the reasons for requesting "prior notification" of the teachers and librarians planned use of any of the UNapproved Authors in the 1IntellectualFreedom.html document.
A rationale is just a list of items justifying the use of a particular title.  It doesn't have to be in a particular form or it can be this form:
If you have written a rationale for one or more of the Authors of Excellence and would like to share it with those parents coming behind you, we will publish them here.

A rationale is the articulation of the reasons for using a particular literary work, film, or teaching method.
Minimally, a rationale should include:
- a bibliographic citation and the intended audience
- a brief summary of the work and its educational significance
- the purposes of using the work and how it will be used
- potential problems with the work and how these can be handled
- alternative works an individual student might read or view.
