Howdy Folks,
       In our August 2013 eNewsLetter we usually emphasize educational choices for parents and Home School awareness; however this month we effectively prove the concerns of "Two New Evils Targeting Our Public School Children: COMMON CORE and k12.com Virtual Schools".  These evils are very real and very current as well as the below.
      The "Common Core" curriculum article 
was written by Dr. Robert Dreyfus who has been a conservative activist for 52 years and currently resides in central Florida.  Just below his article are some Special Links like the Map link that you can follow to find the current status of your state's participation in the rejection /acceptance of the Common Core curriculum.
        The second topic for parental awareness is about the new education opiate on the market i.e k12.com.  This web site was advertised i.e. endorsed by the former Director of the Federal Department of Education, Dr. Bill Bennett, on his morning radio program during the 3rd or 4th week of July.  We will look at the pros and egregious cons of k12 free online schools and provide some links and info on various alternative Christian denominations' online and virtual home school choices.

Common Core is the latest of many so called reforms such as:  Head Start, School To Work, Goals 2,000, No Child Left Behind, Race To The Top, International Baccalaureate and Pre K.  In discussing educational issues, it is easy to get mired in the minutia and the acronyms which distract from the real issues.  What is important is that you understand that the purpose of Common Core and all of these other programs has been:

The most prestigious study ever done on the public school system was by The National Commission on Excellence in Education.  In 1983 they published their report, A Nation At Risk which stated, "If an unfriendly foreign power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war"

After many years of studying education practices, I along with many others, have concluded that sending a child into the public school system is akin to legalized child abuse.  From the beginning the purpose of the system was to dumb down the populace, to destroy a child´s faith in God, and to indoctrinate them into a secular socialist world view.    The horrid government school system has accomplished all these goals, and is the root cause of ninety percent of the problems America is now facing.   

In spite of the fact that we would like to see schools improve, government school reform is a myth.  The reality is that the only thing that would improve educational results, and give children the opportunity to live a fulfilled life would be to close down the government school system.

The book, "Leaving School - Finding Education"   addresses this issue. One of the authors, Dr. Jon Wiles, has written a dozen books in the area of educational leadership, and worked as a consultant specializing in curriculum change in 40 states and 10 foreign nations. Coauthor, Dr. John Lundt for the past 15 years has served as Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Montana, and has consulted with educational agencies throughout the world.  Here are excerpts from their book:  

  "Schools are now in a dysfunctional state...The time has arrived for the United States to think seriously about bidding farewell to its schools... they are a relic from another age...public schools are responsible for increasing amounts of cultural decay and social dysfunction in our society... Schools have no hope of reforming themselves. There has been no lasting change in half a century. Schools cannot and will not change... Schools are resistant to changing; they have always been this way... Parents should be both frightened and outraged at this lack of relevance and this leadership incompetence... Schools are the largest impeding force in our nation... Schools are beginning to pull other institutional agencies downward...This is an institution, your authors believe, in its final days...An alternative must be found quickly. What we believe, after very full careers in schools as teachers, administrators, and curriculum leaders, is that defining any improvement in the school will be both a futile exercise and a self defeating proposition... The American school cannot be fixed...We believe the United States must seriously explore abandoning the school as the vessel of learning and move to redefine education in terms of other options. We believe that a failure to break away, soon, will result in a surprising rapid deterioration of the institution, and the even further decline in the general culture of the United States...America can shed its final monopoly...We currently have all of the technology needed to provide a quality education to all students in the comfort and safety of their own homes... the authors believe we are poised, unknowingly, on the brink of a major change in education in the United States. Our schools while imposing in scale, are precariously fragile in reality. Any coalition of parents, taxpayers, businessmen, and concerned educators has the power to influence the most significant change in American education. The question is, what are we waiting for? "

What would you call a system?

I would call it evil.

Christians are holding the rope that supports the system. We need to let go of the rope by removing our children from the government schools. Why prop up an anti-Christian institution by our participation? Let it die a well deserved death.  The system has changed the culture and morality of Americans.  Studies by George Barna show that only 9% of the average congregation and only 51% of pastors operate from a biblical worldview.  If your pastor isn´t informing the congregation that this system is devastating children academically, morally and spiritually on this issue, why is he your pastor?

We should view Common Core in the same was as we would view attempting to make Nazi concentration camps or Soviet gulags better by changing their name to Renewal Centers, putting curtains in the gas chambers, painting the barracks pink and playing loud music to cover up the screams of those being tortured and killed. Common Core will change the appearance, not the essence of the system.

Adolph Hitler said, "When an opponent declares, I will not come over to your side, I calmly say, Your child belongs to us already.... What are you? You will pass on.  Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp.  In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community."

Free Online k12.com Schools: Public, Private and Home Schools. (Virtual Schools)

Although this k12.com web site has been around since 2001 and the education organization was endorsed and advertised by conservative Dr. Bill Bennett, and although the k12 Board of Directors, Senior Management and Curriculum Developers all appear to be qualified Americans, and the private school options are fully accredited, and the price is right (free), and even if the product is better than local public schools there are at least 16 evils of the 19 Common Core bullet points listed above that apply to k12.com.  But here are the egregious problems with k12 schools.  
  1. One of the egregious problems is no accountability to local voters or our representatives who were hired to safely control public education.  The k12 virtual schools circumvent all state legislative authority and oversight, all state Dept of Ed authority and oversight, all local school board authority and oversight.  They circumvent all state and local elections where the parents and electorate are stakeholders in the end product.  Why should voters surrender control to unaccountable Virtual schools, teachers and administrators?  How can they meet all of the 50 states' legislated objectives of education unless it is compromised "one size fits all".  State legislatures should STOP all k12.com access to state schools.
  2. Another egregious problem is no accountability to local tax payers.  The funding and support for k12 school is unknown.  Who is paying and directing this education scheme?  Who is paying, hiring and firing the k12 staff?  Maybe the UN.  They want to take our children with the "UN Convention on the Rights of the Child" Treaty (CRC) which is unconstitutional on 22 counts!  Why should the local tax payers not pay the salaries of the local school employees which also live under the governance of the school board, the local police and the influence of the resulting local community values, economic values and property values created by their products?  If there is civil or criminal abuse connected to K12.com who has jurisdiction?
  3. Another egregious problem is the curriculum of the k12 schools.  K12 presumes every state and parent will be willing to switch approved state curricula with questionable, national, unknown sourced, curricula unseen or glossed over by any local representative or school board.  Should parents surrender their local and state authority and control over curricula in favor of a national curricula.  Who designed it?  Who maintains it?  Who keeps it from being rewritten, biased or worse like Hitler's quote above that commits to kidnap the minds of our children?  Maybe the UN.  The UN has tried to control us locally with Agenda 21; they have claimed our national forests, parks and wet lands.  UNESCO has a national curriculum for the control of our public school children; see 5:45 min. into this 10 min. video: AGENDA 21 FOR DUMMIES .  This Common Core Video Evidence in Part 3 indicates that all of the standard assessments i.e. GED, SAT and ACT will be changed to match the Common Core.  K12 will be forced to follow.  
  4. Another egregious problem is the unaccountable k12 teachers and administrators?  Who do they report to?  Who pays them?  How are they going to maintain a high quality and by whose definition of high and by whose definition of quality?  How will they remain uninfluenced by secular humanism?  The secular humanists are intent on indoctrinating their dogma.  A reasonable faculty will not be able to resist the machine if they do they will be replaced.  
  5. Another egregious problem is the student data collected locally and shared with who?  K12 advertises that they are in 85 countries.  Who has access to America's student data?  
  6. Many states and parents do not like the current central government's secular humanist curricula so why would they want even less control, less accountability and greater loss and failure of the next generation?   See the Atheism Engine prophecy.  
I think that the Christian denomination that competes most effectively with public schools and k12.com Virtual Schools will prosper the most in the years ahead.  Here are some Christian denominations' online alternatives that might(?) provide competition for the k12 free schools: public, private and homeschool.  Do not let denominationalism get in the way.  We have more truth in common with one another's denomination than with secular humanism's statism, atheism, tyranny, chaos and evil, etc..  Remember The Bible is the inerrant, infallible, absolutely true, Holy Spirit inspired, Word of the Living God.
     Maybe the costs for "approved" and "accredited" home school /virtual schools might not be unnecessary.  "The average SAT score of the most recent freshman class" of Patrick Henry College  (mostly home schooled)  "is 1313.  This is a remarkable achievement for a college which has only been open since 2000.  Patrick Henry College has surpassed a majority of American colleges in the quality of its students and is poised to compete with Harvard, Yale, and Princeton."  J.      "The best educated children in America don't go to school.  With public school students at the 50th percentile, home schoolers were at the 89th percentile in reading, the 86th percentile in science, the 84th percentile in language, math, and social studies.  The explosive growth in home schooling has been fueled by dissatisfaction with public schools.  That dissatisfaction is hugely justified.  The United States is only major country where young people will not know more than their parents.  Parents who home school spend about $600 a year on educational materials.  This doesn't include their labor, but contrasts vividly with the $10,560 per pupil spent in public schools in 2011.  Home schooling succeeds because its focus is on children ..."  Jack Kelly, ToThePointNews.com (lifted from ccpcfl.org's Aug 2013 eNewsletter (pdf).)
Perhaps these additional alternatives are better suited to your situation.
  1. Churches:  Special "Switched on Schoolhouse" by Alpha Omega Publications ; real economical - a computer-based, Bible-centered curriculum for grades K-12, along with a complete high school diploma program.  Switched On Schoolhouse overview  .  Reduce tuition! Maximize enrollment + maximize  education + minimize overhead.

PSS:  Consider forwarding this to your family members.  Then to the parents of public school children that you know.  Then consider forwarding it to your local school board and state legislatures that represent you.  Ask them what they are doing to protect the children from this evil and unconstitutional attack on our public school children.
