Dear Jan Shroder,                                                              July 9, 2003
I went to your web site.  I didn't find a mission statement so I'm not sure what your goals are for your web site.  I came away with the impression that you and your web site act like a "newspaper" that reports on the latest public school (PS) outrageous and illegal textbook and religion issues.
I read your testimony and it is quite good especially in the first person - because it happened to you but you didn't mention what state or school district where this occurred.  Generally the larger hence more liberal districts have the most flagrant abuses.  From my perspective I think your web site could use more child/parent first hand reports of the consequences of this kind of education.  Parents also want to know "that they are not the only ones" with concerns; and, that they and their children don't have to be victims and what they can do to defend themselves.  One of the first things parents have to discern is what PS issues they are going to pursue; and, what their rights are and what resources are available to help them deal with it.  Check out our Liberty Defenders: https://hisways.org/Liberty/index.htm .  Other things that parents need to learn is that Christian teachers (even my deacon) will go along with the liberal PS curriculum for the sake of their jobs.  Because 20+ PS graduating classes have produced an immoral culture, the culture has invaded and weakened the church.   The churches seem over burdened just keeping members on track and getting new converts properly discipled up to a minimal level.  The churches really don't address this part of our children's discipleship.  When a church or pastor goes to the local school or school board they are treated just like parents i.e.  "no one else has this concern", or they imply that: you are out of line or you are an adversary!  Other PS parent helps are the Opt-Out letters, see our Index of Sample Hatch Amendment Letters at https://hisways.org/howto/letters/index.html and our Religious Guide link in the default signature block.
In my opinion CEAI  is a good organization and that liberals are flagrant liars.  I re-read Turpin (Turpen?) as quoted below.  Each quote is possibly the truth but twisted to cause strife.  The " . . . " also indicates that part of his quote has been deleted and a subject change could have taken place.   Were you aware that the California education statutes require a basic education in who Jesus Christ was (is), what the early church did and how the Christian religion and the Bible influenced our founding fathers and thinkers of the day?  Can you see where the first statement might be taken out of context?  The CA PS system is so reprobate that multiple conservative leaders have recommended that parents keep their kids out of it.   I would bet that a class action law suit is on the way.
CEAI's greatest feature is that it is a wonderful alternative for PS teachers who want professional benefits like the NEA but dislike or disapprove of the liberal & political policies of the NEA.   For example, a parent or teacher could help all the children in the local school district by helping the teachers by contacting CEAI and developing a local CEAI chapter for the PS teachers.   Teachers also don't know what rights they have so they error frequently on the liberal side.   Please see:  VI.  What  (else) /You CAN DO/:
Concerning textbooks, there is so much wrong with them and with the publishers that produce them that it is really a tough issue.  The textbook problem is usually directed at the state level since each state comes up with an "approved" list which all of the school boards select from.  There are only 4 to 5 big textbook publishers and they have the entire USA textbook market.  I think we need more competition from the conservative (religious) textbook publishers.  However, the leader in non compromised, independent, textbook reviews is Mel & Norma Gabler of  Educational Research Analysts,    "Reviews & Reports on the textbook publisher's public school books from a conservative, factual, and religious discrimination perspectives. "   You can find a link to them and other textbook groups on Hisways "USA" page under the label: 13.  Textbook Research & Error Detection. https://hisways.org/usa/index.html#Textbooks13  .  They have been independently reviewing textbooks for the state of Texas for some 30-40 years.  They have been a strong voice in the selection of the best books for Texas.   They have also been instrumental in getting Texas to demand that the publishers fix their errors and reprint.  You can get on their mailing list and /or purchase some of their "textbook reviews".
Let's pray for our PS children, parents and teachers.
Sincerely, REK, A Parent of Public School Graduates.

I'm asking for help. I'm not sure in what way, but if you feel led to respond, please do . When "Christian Educators" prefer Islam
(for documentation supporting these facts, see www.blessedcause.org).  Due to the efforts of Christian Educators Association International (CEAI) and others, public school textbooks remain rife with Muslim propaganda such as; "Assume you are a Muslim soldier."  When the textbook publisher, Houghton Mifflin (HM), came under fire last year with accusations of indoctrination to Islam, Forrest Turpen, Executive Director of CEAI, publicly defended the textbook. TruthorFiction.com noted the "Christian group" and wrote "Turpin says the teaching about Islam has not been "slipped" into the curriculum.  In fact," says Turpin, "the state of California has been a leader in requiring a balance of teaching about who we are and what has empowered us as a civilization.  "BlessedCause, the organization that originally complained about the Islamic propaganda, wrote to Forrest Turpen pointing out the affronts of the Islam Unit and asked why he endorsed the textbook. Turpen wrote: "I agree with you that the response from HM implies that we reviewed the books in the series in total.  That isn't the case at all as we focused only our attention on the Christian perspectives that were written and did not look at or compare the other content of the texts...In essence we did no evaluation of the other religions addressed in any of the textbooks of the HM series." No evaluation. Yet Mr. Turpen, representing a "Christian group," defended HM and quelled public outrage.  BlessedCause continued correspondence with CEAI, to which Dan Elliott, Ed.D., a member of CEAIs Board of Directors, replied "Our organization is not a "Christian Education" organization. It is a professional educators organization.  We support teachers and administrators, working primarily in public schools who are Christians." If Christian Educators is not a Christian organization per se, and did not evaluate the Islam unit, why was Turpen quoted like an expert representing Christians?  BlessedCause asked CEAI to request TruthorFiction retract their statements. CEAI refused. CEAI is a paid consultant for HM's 6th grade textbook "A Message of Ancient Days" which contains the Christian section.  BlessedCause has since reviewed this textbook including the chapter titled: "Christianity and the Fall of Rome."  This is a partial list of items found:
There are many scholars of the Bible and the Quran, but few have closely studied and compared the Bible, the Quran AND the 6th grade textbook. BlessedCause has, and noted that overwhelmingly, what is written as Christian beliefs are actually Islam's beliefs about Jesus.  What a contrast to the Islam Unit with statements such as:   "The Quran is the final revelation, just as Muhammad is the final prophet."

"In fact, the very first word the angel Gabriel spoke to Muhammad was recite."

"Ramadan is a holy time, because in this month Muhammad received his first message from Allah."

"These revelations confirmed both Muhammad's belief in monotheism, and his role as the last messenger in a long line of prophets sent by God. "Religious beliefs of Islam compose 10 times the text compared to the Christian Unit, with LESS disclaimers such as "Muslims believe."  Instead of asking children to assume they are Muslim soldiers, in the Christian section they are asked to imagine they are back in the catacombs of dead Christians. It's cleverly written in a fun way, but bottom line, that's the exercise. In the Jewish section, children are asked to imagine they are Jews forced from their homeland.Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. With California spending $400 million per year on textbooks, Christian Educators Assoc. Intl. sold out Jesus for a mere $500. We Christians often leap to the rationalization of our anger by bringing up the turning of tables by Jesus. Usually we are wrong to do that. But there are times such as these when one can do no less. Christian children, the bodies of Christ, are being crucified on the cross of public school. How long will we abandon our children to suffer this onslaught of their faith alone? Jennifer Shroder is founder of BlessedCause.org, where dozens of exact quotes from both textbooks can be found, as well as documentation of children praying to Allah on their hands and knees at the request of teachers.TruthorFiction also reported that Islam's beliefs were under the umbrella of "The Teachings of Islam." This simply is not so. That heading appeared after four full pages of religious beliefs. It is my hope that if you are associated with Christian Educators Association International, or interested in their response, you will ask them to explain their position. What is happening in public schools must be stopped, not furthered by a proported Christian organization. CEAI can be contacted at Sincerely, Jen ShroderBlessedcause.org
