A Moment of Silence In Florida's Public Schools.

Parents, grand parents, God parents and others, Hisways recommends this list of 5 simple fundamental principles from American history that are non denominational and have been used in America's public schools from about 1690 to 1947, that's when SCOTUS began moving away from parent directed education and into government indoctrination.  This is your chance to get some of it back.

Is it Legal?:  Moment of Silence in Public Schools, (see also "common sense" below)   "The 2021 FL law directs the principal of each school to require first-period classroom teachers in all grades to set aside 1 to 2 minutes for a moment of silence. The bill prohibits a teacher from making suggestions about the nature of a student’s reflection during the moment of silence. Instead, teachers must encourage parents to discuss the moment of silence with their children and to make suggestions to their children about how they could use this time."Moment of Silence Resources.
The trend is growing.  "Florida [is] one of at least 15 states, ... that would compel schools to hold moments of silence at public schools." [onenewsnow.com/ June 15, 2021]

"5 Points" used in schools before? (Precedent):    The Five "Fundamental  Judeo-Christian   Points To Be Taught in the Schools.", [were in] The Founders' compact, [taken from] "The 5000 Year Leap; Principles of Freedom 101 - The Rights_List" by W. Cleon Skousen, [ pgs. 77, 78 ]  [A book review]  "The Founders exclude[d] the creeds and biases or dissensions of individual denominations so as to make the teaching of religion" [acceptable] to Jefferson['s] Bill for Establishing Elementary Schools in Virginia."  Benjamin Franklin  (See "'Jefferson's Bill" for Establishing Religious Freedom'" with edits.)

1.
There exists a Creator who made all things, and mankind should recognize and worship him.
2.
The Creator has revealed a moral code of behavior for happy living which distinguishes right from wrong.
3.
The Creator holds mankind responsible for the way they treat each other.
4.
All mankind live beyond this life.
5. In the next life mankind are judged for their conduct in this one.

How to start Moment of Silence. If the children are young, parents might want to set these up i.e. help the younger child get started memorizing the 5 principles, say 1 per day.  Perhaps the parent and child could use the memorization method of the Westminster Shorter Catechism below.

Moment of Silence Resources:
  1. This Moment of Silence page with the 5 Fundamental Points is not copyrighted, so scan it, print it & distribute it.
  2. Some of the following materials and linked materials are too large for 1 week.  If the parent/student would let the numbers represent days of the week or weeks of the month or months of the school year; then, depending upon their interest and ability, they could extend the Moment of Silence to continue day to day and time to time.  Perhaps taking daily notes in a journal to be used as an end of week oral report to the parents.
  3. These 5 Fundamental Points, slightly edited in: Theories vs ISM's can be used as questions for debate in Science classes.
  4. Seven Principles of Judeo-Christian Ethic both online:
  5. Westminster Shorter Catechism – The Westminster Standard . . . An idea for Moments of Silence might be America's 2nd text book, the New England Primer (for grades K-3) that contained The Westminster Shorter Catechism, or find your own denomination's child catechism online.  The Shorter Catechism for kids contain 107 Biblical questions with answers that students would memorize.  Parents would start the child on memorizing the Catechism before they could read or write.  This made it easier for the child to get a head start in school by memorizing good material.  For example, for young children the first question only has 7 short words of 1 syllable.
  6. If a student was challenged or interested in "wisdom and understanding" he could find a special Proverb and divide the Proverb into 5 parts (several verses) and memorize a different part or read a part from day to day.
  7. Principles of Successful Business from Proverbs, By Gregory Koukl, 8 Principles.  Each Principle is comprehensive and probably best suited for high schoolers.
  8. Additional common sense laws were passed in 2021 in FL that pertain to students, parents and schools.  For instance, the 2021 Legislative Insider VICTORY REPORT Final Week 9 of 9.html page has the Conservative's Text which has in-page links to the Sponsor's Text and a (HB) link to the legislature's specific details.
  9. Excellent materials for Moment of Silence, homeschool, review or/and study.  Lead-in to March 2021 Newsletter
