Overview of Instructions for: OPTION 2, Adding Addendum #2
List. Browse to the 6 Hisways.Org pages and save each of them to your hard drive in a directory of your choice. Save each one of them by using "View Source" and NotePad to preserve the (file) HTML links to each page. Open your saved 2AuthorsMasterLists.html page in NotePad. Open your own (previously assembled) Authors List in NotePad and "Copy" the whole list. "Paste" it into 2AuthorsMasterLists.html at the exact designated place mentioned in 5g.. Save it. View your edited web page list in your browser. Print it, cross out any authors in the un-editable columns with a pen or add age graded designations. Edit your Opt-IN, Opt-Out Letter For Intellectual Freedom: (1IntellectualFreedom.html) and present both of the documents to your child's school. |
4a.) Browse to (surf to): The Parents' Opt-Out Letter to Their Public School(s) Hisways.org/howto/letters/1IntellectualFreedom.html (file) web page.Suggestions:
~ In your IE browser, "right mouse click" and "View Source". This action opens NotePad text editor and shows you the HTML code.
~ From NotePad: Click on "File" "Save As.." 1IntellectualFreedom.html in your "My Documents" folder or equivalent working directory. Hint: in the Save As dialog box go to "Save as type", the second field from bottom, and click "All Files". Then click "Save" button.
~ This page does not need to be edited in HTML web page format. This page should be edited in your favorite word processor. NotePad is not a word processor.

~ In your IE browser, "right mouse click" and "View Source". This action opens NotePad text editor and shows you the HTML code.
~ From NotePad: Click on "File" "Save As.." 2AuthorsMasterLists.html in your"My Documents" folder or equivalent working directory. Hint: in the Save As dialog box go to "Save as type", the second field from bottom, and click "All Files". Then click "Save" button.
~ These instructions preserves the HTML web page code. The editing instructions in 5.) below will locate a pre-designed position in the code; and will allow you to "Copy and Paste" your Notepad List of Approved Authors (developed in #3. above) into the right place in the HTML code. Knowledge of coding or formatting is not necessary. The simplicity of this technique requires that you accept the default font i.e. Courier font formatting .

~ In your IE browser, "right mouse click" and "View Source". This action opens NotePad text editor and shows you the HTML code.
~ From NotePad: Click on "File" "Save As.." 3AuthorsListEdit.html in your "My Documents" folder or equivalent working directory. Hint: in the Save As dialog box go to "Save as type", the second field from bottom, and click "All Files". Then click "Save" button.
5a.) In your IE Browser go to (surf to) your "My Documents" folder or equivalent working directory where you saved the file 2AuthorsMasterLists.html and open that saved file in your IE browser.6.) Edit your cover letter for your lists.
5b.) In that web page, take your mouse and make a "right mouse button" click.
5c.) When the menu comes up click on "View Source" (It is about the 11th item down on my menu.)
5d.) This will open Notepad showing you all of the HTML web page code.
5e.) In the Notepad Toolbar click on "Edit" then "Find". In the text box type in "337.start" this will take you right to the exact place to paste in your Authors Addendum #2 List.
5f.) Do not remove or delete the two HTML tags <"pre"> or <"/pre"> these tags make editing simple. Try to keep it simple.
5g.) OPEN or LAUNCH OR START ANOTHER INSTANCE OF Notepad , then open your list of Authors you made from #3 above.
~ "Right mouse Click" then "Select All"
~ "Right mouse Click" then "Copy"
~ Go to your 1st instance of NotePad that has the 2AuthorsMasterLists.html file where you found "337.start"
~ "Paste" your list on "337.start". The table box will expand to accept your list. Delete any extra lines but not the dashed ( _ _ _ ) lines.
~ Save the file to your "My Documents" folder or equivalent working directory. Hint: in the Save As dialog box go to "Save as type", the second field from bottom, and click "All Files". Then click "Save" button. 5h.) View (Refresh) in IE Browser your new, edited 2AuthorsMasterLists.html with combined lists. Check that it is all right and is suitable for printing.
[Hint: Try to avoid printing multiple lists during the school year. IF you find a Unapproved Author is now deemed appropriate just take a pen and cross him off the left column list and write him in on the right column list. If you want to add an author as UNapproved or Approved just write him in on a blank line in the appropriate column.]
~ The cover letter is: The Parents' Opt-Out Letter to Their Public School(s): Hisways.org/howto/letters/1IntellectualFreedom.html (101 Kb file). To edit this text in your favorite word processor just have the page Open in your browser, then "Right Mouse Click" and on the menu that comes up pick "Select All", then "Right Mouse Click" then "Copy", then go to your word processor and "Paste" it in. Edit the sample text to suit your situation. (If you want some of the formating to persist use a Rich Text File capable processor.)
