   • I've decided to try this next link (BUSTED) on How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8 - Windows 7 Help Forums .  I didn't want a 1-3GB Win 10 OS sitting on my computer and just "hiding" the update link as the only protection.  The forum link says Win 7 has a "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" in the Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Windows Update > Change settings.  After that change and a reboot, the plan is to go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Installed Updates (in left, bottom frame), WAIT until all updates are loaded, then look for KB3035583 and KB2952664then uninstall them.  This should get them off of both computers and when they ask to update them again I will "hide" them.  Then the update action will be hidden, and the download should not take up HDrive space.  BTW I'm going to uninstall and hide Skype for Windows desktop 7.3 (KB2876229)and use portable Skype 6.10 at PortableApps.com - you don't have to use the PortableApps system if you don't want to.  I'm seriously considering unchecking the checkbox "Give me updates for Microsoft products and check for new optional MS software when I update Windows" in the Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Windows Update > Change settings. This worked but it was SLOW to validate it.

And so there have been various postings, we talked about it last week, where initially you could uninstall the "upgrade," unquote, the Windows update to Windows 7 and 8 machines, which was annoying people. But then we had the news that having done that, the second Tuesday of the month, which was now three weeks ago, or three Tuesdays ago, counting this Tuesday as one, so two weeks ago, it came back, and that there wasn't something obviously possible to disable. ... So the good news is, for those techies here who do want to disable this, who don't - oh, and I guess my advice of hiding it doesn't work, or doesn't work robustly. So you cannot just use the Do Not Notify me option down in the tray. There is a registry key and value that can be created. Apparently, if you've got this, you've got something under the HKLM\ Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\GWX. So that's the path in the registry, HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\GWX. Under this GWX key you create a DWORD value named Disable, with capital D, lowercase "isable," so Disable, all caps GWX, and give that the value of one, and you are done. You have disabled Get Windows 10. And whatever Microsoft chooses to do, apparently they will honor that. It works today. We can hope it continues working.  (My Win 7 doesn't have this exact registry path so I'm not changing this now.  What I did was search my whole Hdrive for GWX then changed all the GWX folders to "GWX-rek".  After some(?) time I'll delete them. )
